The UnLocked Project Kicks Off the Semester at Second Look Fair & First GBM!
On February 5, 2025, The UnLocked Project had an incredible start to the semester with a strong presence at the University of Maryland’s Second Look Fair! This event gave us the opportunity to connect with students from all backgrounds, introduce them to our mission, and encourage them to get involved in supporting children of incarcerated parents.
Throughout the fair, we engaged with 80+ students who stopped by our booth to learn more about what we do. Many were interested in our initiatives and we had meaningful conversations about the importance of raising awareness on this often-overlooked issue. It was inspiring to see so many students eager to make a difference, and we’re excited to welcome those who signed up to join our efforts this semester!
Later that evening, we held our first General Body Meeting (GBM) of the semester, bringing together both returning members and new faces from the fair. The energy in the room was amazing as we introduced our executive team, shared our plans for the semester, and discussed upcoming volunteer opportunities and events. We also took time to reflect on the impact of our work, emphasizing the importance of community, education, and advocacy in supporting children and families affected by incarceration.
One of the most exciting parts of the meeting was hearing from our new members about what drew them to The UnLocked Project. Their passion and fresh perspectives brought a renewed sense of motivation to our team, and we can’t wait to see the ideas and contributions they bring to the organization.
Overall, the day was a huge success, and we are so grateful to everyone who stopped by our booth, attended our GBM, or expressed interest in our mission. If you missed the meeting, don’t worry—there are plenty of opportunities to get involved! Stay tuned for our next event, and feel free to reach out if you want to learn more about how to join our movement.
Together, we’re making a difference—one conversation, one event, and one step at a time.
